TOM CRAMPTON RECEIVES MEA EXCELLENCE AWARD
For Immediate Release (11/20/98)

Steve Robinson, Tom Crampton, Julius Maddox
The award is given to one professional educator per year who has led students to greater achievement through excellent teaching and exemplary practice. Julius Maddox, president of the MEA, called Crampton "a credit to the education profession and the Michigan Education Association."
Crampton coordinates the drafting program at MCC, and has taken the lead in developing curriculum for the proposed Regional Technology Center. Crampton was selected because of his commitment to classroom excellence and professional development.
Crampton was nominated for the award by his union, the MCC Education Association, which is affiliated with the MEA and NEA. Steve Robinson, president of the MCC Education Association, was jubilant upon hearing the news. "Our Association is so proud of Tom. He has brought great honor to the faculty at MCC," said Robinson.
Higher education members make up a very small percentage of the MEA. Crampton's selection is major achievement. "It's great for Mott, and it's great for higher education in Michigan," said Robinson, who represents two-year colleges on the MEA Board of Directors.
The award was presented at a special reception during the MEA Instruction and Professional Development Conference on December 3, 1998 in Dearborn, Michigan.

"He's had his difficulties here and he leaves at a critical time, but we hope he finds success at his new position."from "MCC chief leaving Post." Christofer Machniak, Jorunal Staff Writer.
