From the EA President
As I mentioned during the Fall Welcome Back Breakfast, the editing changes agreed to in our new 3-year contract were small but numerous. Because of this, the editing is still underway; I would like to give faculty an update on the process.
One reason for the length of the process is the large number of numbering and lettering changes to the articles, including other small issues such as changing "shall" to "will" and similar mechanics. On January 22, 2007, Human Resources completed the preliminary edits. During the next two weeks, I will be working to ensure that all of the minor editing reflects the understanding our Bargaining Team had at the table.
The current agreement will be in force until August 23, 2009, so I think it is important that the editing be done once and done correctly. Over the past 10 years, I have also seen the large difference that small editing changes can make to a particular section of the contract. For that reason, it is our intention to "measure twice and cut once" with the current editing. A complete copy of the Contract should be on the College web site by the end of February.
